NSW Rebates & Solar Schemes
The NSW PDRS Scheme
The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) – also colloquially referred to as the ‘NSW Battery Rebate’ – is a government initiative designed to ease electricity demand during peak times by incentivising NSW residents to install batteries, and connect to Virtual Power Plants (VPPs).
Redback Technologies’ product solutions comply to all requirements and are eligible for the PDRS Scheme application.
The scheme is separated into categories by Accredited Certificate Providers (ACPs).
- BESS1 = New battery installations.
- BESS2 = New battery installations being connected to a VPP; or, an existing battery being connected to a VPP.
Commencing November 1, 2024, the BESS1 PDRS offers an incentive to homeowners who meet key criteria including:
- Installation site is residential or for a small business.
- Has an existing solar PV system or are having solar PV installed at the same time as the battery.
- There is no existing battery installed at the premises.
- The battery capacity cannot exceed 28kWh and cannot be less than 2kWh.
- The battery must be capable of connecting to a VPP.
- The battery must meet specific warranty conditions.
- The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council’s approved battery list.
The BESS2 PDRS criteria includes:
- Installation at a residential site.
- Solar PV is installed at the same site.
- There is no life support equipment in use at the same site.
- The total battery capacity cannot exceed 28kWh or be less that 2kWh.
- The battery model must be on the Clean Energy Council’s approved battery list when connected to the VPP.
- There must be a minimum of 6 years remaining on the warranty.
